SCRIPTURE READING:
New Testament: 1 Corinthians 9:19-23 (NRSV)
To be free
For though I am free with respect to all, I have made myself a
slave to all, so that I might win more of them. To the Jews I
became as a Jew, in order to win Jews. To those under the law I
became as one under the law (though I myself am not under the
law) so that I might win those under the law. To those outside the
law I became as one outside the law (though I am not free from
God’s law but am under Christ’s law) so that I might win those
outside the law. To the weak I became weak, so that I might win
the weak. I have become all things to all people, that I might by all
means save some. I do it all for the sake of the gospel, so that I
may share in its blessings.
John 17:20-24 (NRSV)
Be One
I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who
will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As
you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so
that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that
you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as
we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become
completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent
me and have loved them even as you have loved me. Father, I
desire that those also, whom you have given me, may be with me
where I am, to see my glory, which you have given me because
you loved me before the foundation of the world. This is the Word
of God, for the people of God; People: Thanks be to God.

CONFESSION AND PARDON
Holy God, we give thanks that your love is poured into our
hearts by the Holy Spirit. Your grace is perfected and
completed in us. We are rooted and grounded in your love,
and nothing can separate us from it.
We commit ourselves to walking in your light. We endure as
we strive to be patient and kind, never envious, divisive, or
jealous. In your love, we are not self-seeking, quick-tempered,
fretful, resentful, or rude. We seek to live without offense and
strife, and without division.
We pray that our lives bless all people, because everywhere
we go, we are committed to planting the seeds of your divine
love. We recognize that by our love for one another, people
will know that we are your disciples. In the name of our
blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Amen
Children of God, receive divine grace in the secret places of your
heart. Receive God’s forgiveness that is too wonderful for words.
Receive light in the name of Jesus. Amen.
